THE HOSPITAL FOR TROPICAL DISEASES
The Hospital for Tropical Diseases is a world centre of excellence combining
prevention, treatment and causes of tropical diseases. The Hospital recognises
the importance in preventing insect bites. Safe travel involves a dual
protection programme: the correct anti-malarial medication along with an
effective DEET based insect repellent such as Jungle Formula's Extra Strength
Pump Spray or Liquid - approved by the Hospital for use in tropical areas
with a high risk of Malaria and other insect transmitted diseases.
Today, the Hospital for Tropical Diseases is at the forefront of
the battle against virulent new strains of Malaria. Its Travel Clinic
dispenses immunisation and advice to more than 8,000 UK travellers
annually. More than 80,000 ring the Travel Clinic Healthline. For
many who contract Malaria the hospital provides the specialist diagnosis
and treatment.
The Hospital has on its staff the only Consultant Parasitologist,
the only Consultant Leprologist and the Consultant in Travel Medicine
within the National Health Service, plus a Tropical Opthamologist
and Tropical Paediatrician.
